Completed: Meet a celebrity – Jian Ghomeshi

I have never been the kind of girl to have needless celebrity crushes. While I can appreciate a nice set of abs and a strong jaw line, I am not automatically drawn to someone because of their physical stature. The way I see it, anyone can be beautiful on the outside, and most people who are unfortunately good looking can get away with having little to no substance (though I’m not saying that they do!). I’m not saying that I’m blind, I just don’t place a lot of value on arm candy.

One thing I do value in people is intelligence. I find nothing more impressive and crush-worthy than someone who can engage in conversation on a million different subjects. A nice smile doesn’t hurt either. That’s why I was so impressed and excited to meet Jian Ghomeshi last night at a live Q taping. I idolize him and have a HUGE intellectual crush on him. Naturally, Aunt Enthusiastic was the one who set this up being the wonderful woman that she is and given that she also has a big fat CBC crush on him. Thanks so much, Aunt E!

For those of you in the States (or those of you in Canada who don’t listen to CBC), Jian hosts Q, a talk show that interviews all sorts of existing and upcoming talent. Last night he did a showcase on Montreal artists, most of which are in the francophone community. He also hosted a really interesting panel on the robo-calling scandal. It should be airing today at 10:00 EST – give ‘er a listen! It was amazing to see a live taping because I got to see him in person and appreciate the intricacies of a live taping. He was also very candid with the audience – that is, as candid as one can be in front of an arena full of fans – and funnier than I expected him to be. It was a great experience.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to speak with him at all because he was running off to another taping. He spent 45 minutes talking to about 5 people in line and 5 minutes talking to the other 40 people in line. I DID, however, get the chance to take a photo.

So here you have it! Fait accompli. I got to meet a celebrity – and not just one I LIKE, one I positively adore.
